A bit of a flashback... |
Today's a good day...starting off with ini hari senin dan nggak ada ngantor alias libur... how can anyone say no to THAT? hehehhe...trus udara lagi bersahabat, well at least pagi sampe siang matahari muncul nggak malu malu walaupun agak sore-an hujan tetap mengguyur my part of town.. And here I am...reading them again... :) it sure brought back memories...Blyton's books are so classic! I wonder if kids nowadays masih tertarik buat baca buku bukunya beliau. If they don't...they should... - Hmm...jadi inget just last week gue juga beli lagi seri Pippi Langstrump-nya Astrid Lindgren waktu Gramedia pameran di sekolah gue buat acara "Give a book to Indonesia" di Indonesia Week... gosh, these books are probably the reason I love reading so much...

Diary of a Wimpy Kid.... |
As a wimpy kid myself, I was pretty lured to read this book just reading the title. Actually, my friend Rita introduced me to this easy read - fun book a while ago and she lent her first copy of the book for me. I was pretty keen on finishing it since i found it hilarious and hard to put down! This book is a very truthful straight-to-the-bone honest daily things that could happen to a middle schooler anywhere. Kudos to Jeff Kinney, he wrote it in a way it sounds funny yet leading the readers to come up with their own sense of 'doing what's right'. I can so relate to the book since the kid in me was yelling, "deja vu!" while reading some of the stories...hehehhe. Jeff Kinney also added some of his cool cartoons as the illustrations, which jazz the book up some more. I'm liking his style!

I think this book would make a great gift for your late elementary to middle school boys... a good read indeed.
Jeff Kinney also have the online version of the book in his website, so give it a go, maybe you'll smile and think...i've been in that kinda situation when i was a kid :)

Entertainment catching up this week! -Twilight- |
My my my...just realized that I have been missing out on some of the goodies lately when it comes to common entertainments due to my extra crammed-up workloads...luckily now i have the privilege and the time to do some catch up on that department! Starting with movies...
Recently everywhere I go I keep on hearing raves and comments about Twilight the movie. Well, actually I have heard about this best selling novel by Stephenie Meyer turned big hit movie from quite a while ago from the Middle School-High School Library. I have always wondered what's all the big fuss about, but the books were sooo hot and wanted i was never getting any chance to lay my hands on one, until the friggin movie was released!
The "girls" (by that i meant my elementary students) were always asking me if I'm gonna go watch the movie soon. Some moms even told me that it's a must see and some of them even went to see the movie like 4 times! That sure gave me a big push. I got to see this! :) And finally one 'easy' night, I succeeded in dragging Iman mijn liebchen to watch it in EX after work. We got one of the front seaters...(sucks!)but luckily the seat was quite comfy I didn't mind it that much.

To cut to the chase here's what the main idea's about: Twilight tells a story about Bella a girl recently moved in to live with her father in a small town Forks, DC. There she met an interesting guy, Edward Cullen who never failed to surprise her with his extraordinary charms...until Bella found out that he's actually a "vegetarian" vampire. And the story rolls from there. Over all I thought that was a good teen romance. Entertaining with easy on the eyes casts. pretty cool effects, and it lead me to finally gave up, and just buy the damn books. Hehehhe.... Iman as I had predicted thought it was pretty girlie and plain. Aww well, I couldn't really sell the 'Edward Cullen' cuteness charms point on him, I suppose! ehhh, nevermind..
So, yeah...I'm on the first book now out of the 3 that have been released, so far the book offered more detailed graphic in my head...with that cute Edward Cullen from the movie, though...played by Robert Pattinson.

READ- and you shall know stuff..... |
Hmmm...gue udah nggak inget kapan pertama kali gue bisa baca..yang jelas gue sampeeee sekarang sangat suka dan menikmati banget kegiatan yang satu ini. Baca apa aja nggak perlu yang berat berat, kadang-kadang on the way ke kamar mandi (to do 'you know what' yang ngga perlu gue jelasin disini kan..)gue selalu trying to grab something to read, kadang komik, kadang selebaran belanja-nya si mama, kadang majalah atau koran. Apa aja, pokoknya sesuatu yang bisa dibaca...
Gue inget waktu kecil, jamannya anak anak dibeliin barbie-barbiean, bokap nyokap malah encourage gue buat beli buku. kalo buat beli buku, boleh banyak banyak, tapi barbie? think twice...are you sure? Minimal sebulan sekali kita pasti ke toko buku, pada saat itu Gunung Agung di Kwitang lagi jaya jayanya. Dulu buku kesukaan gue berjenis komik, model Asterix & Obelix, Nina, Lucky Luke, Steven Sterk, sampai nggak ketinggalan gue langganan Mimin dan Donal Bebek! Sampai gue berkenalan sama bukunya Laura Ingalls Wilder, si pengarang Little House series...Oh-my-gue nggak bisa ceritain how those books changed me. Gue jadi ketagihan baca, picturing all those incredible stories up my head...secara buku bukunya berbentuk descriptive novel yang sangat minim dalam pengadaan gambar. But I totally fell in love with reading ever since!
Satu demi satu novel novel little house gue lahap, sampe saat ini gue masih inget beberapa scene yang terus hidup di kepala gue, nih ya...salah satunya moment si Laura baru pertama kalinya makan permen lolly. Haduuuh, kayaknya gimanaaaaa gitu! Diceritain gimana dia mau ngejilat permennya sering sering aja sayang, takut permennya cepet habis. hihihi... lucu banget kan? Terus gue kebayang gimana mereka harus jalan kaki 10 km buat ke sekolah setiap hari, even in the snow...buat gue yang pada saat itu 'anak jaman sekarang' yang kesekolah 2 blok dari rumah aja naik becak, things like that sure is interesting!
Gedean dikit gue mulai baca novel-nya Astrid Lindgren, penulis swedia yang gaya nulisnya 'asal' banget. Tapi gue suka. Very imaginative dan lugas. salah satu series yang gue suka tentunya Pippi Longstocking, The Bullerbyn Kids dan Si Bandel. Seru banget deh petualangan petualangannya. Terutama si Pippi dengan sahabat sahabatnya Mr. Nielssen the monkey dan kudanya.
Terus, anak anak pada masa itu pasti kenal, minimal tau buku bukunya Enid Blyton, penulis asal Inggris yang ngetop sama seri 5 sekawan, pasukan mau tahu, dan Mallory Towers-nya...you name it, pasti gue pernah baca bukunya. hehehhe...sotoy banget ya gue? tapi seriously, I was and still am a big fan of hers. Gue suka caranya Enid ngebangun story line. Another one of my favorite from her books are the magic faraway tree series, sayangnya waktu gue kecil buku seri ini nggak diterjemahin ke bahasa Indonesia.
Masa remaja gue juga diisi sama berbagai macam bacaan, yang cukup berkesan buat gue adalah Lupus tokoh karangan Hilman Hariwijaya, dan cerpen cerpennya Zara Zettira Zr. hahhaha...see, I even remembered their names, dude! Gue juga suka buku bukunya Judith Blume yang menurut gue sangat jujur dan buat remaja ting ting alias under 15 years old buku bukunya informatif sekali. Salah satu bukunya Judith yang fenomenal adalah: God, it's me Margareth. Ni buku ngebantu gue get through my first period dan gue bisa ngerti kenapa si Margareth dalam buku ini freaking out :) hehehe. I could soooooo relate to her back then.
Later on gue mulai baca (which is rada ketelatan buat umur gue yang udah masuk teens di masa itu) tulisan tulisannya Roald Dahl, he's brilliant! gue suka banget imajinasinya dia yang 'gila'. Liat aja Charlie and the chocolate factory, atau The Witches atau Matilda! Waaaah....keren deh. sampe sekarang juga gue masih nikmatin banget his work. As a grown up, gue suka autobiography-nya dia yang judulnya Boy.
However...anak anak jaman sekarang lebih suka 'nonton' film yang diangkat dari buku daripada baca bukunya sendiri...that's sad...soalnya, as a reader, gue suka ngerasa nggak puas sama buku yang di film-in, soalnya ngga sesuai sama yang gue gambarin di kepala gue aja. Ya tokohnya, lah, ya jalan ceritanya...bagusnya sih kalau mereka udah nonton filmnya, teteup semangat baca bukunya...so they can form their own judgement...tapi....ahhh pasti nggak akan sama deh! hehehe... but hey, this is the globalization era, mau apalagi..it's bound to happend. I just wish, anak anak (terutama anak Indonesia) lebih excited about books seperti jaman gue dulu, that's all...
So, di kelas, gue seneng banget anak anak diexposed ke buku dari umur yang muda banget, mereka dibiasain peer reading, looking at books, daily book borrowing, finding answers through research on books so they can and will develop their love for books, their passion for reading...that's gonna be my goal.
Ayo dong, ya...kita ajak anak anak kita seneng baca dari sekarang...here's my magic word : "READ-and you shall know stuff" hehehhe...
....happy reading....Labels: books, journals, kids, read, reading |
